A Sad Loss

We were greatly saddened on Thursday 13th February to learn of the passing of David Dearsley one of our steadfast long term members who had been seriously ill in recent times.

We shall certainly miss him as a good member and friend. We also extend our heart felt sympathies to Kathy and their their daughter Emma who is still volunteering with BCG and the Wreccelesham. Conservation Group.

Spring Is In The Air

2025 has been declared as the wettest year on record and there is still plenty of rain falling but the signs of Spring are also readily apparent with crocuses and daffodils out on all our sites. Also, the toads on Boundary Road have already been moving back to their home pond for two weeks. Inspired by this and undeterred by the frequent showers, our volunteers have kept busy. In the evenings we are particularly grateful to all who have taken part in the early Toad Watches, especially the organisers, Lisa Malcolm and Myung Hye Chun. Our thanks also go to those who have carried out urgent work in the Old Churchyard in recent days.

Our new project in OCY is a focus for our activities this year and the site is now entered in the ”Its Your Neighbourhood “scheme run by the RHS. This is a joint effort between ourselves and the parishioners of St Thomas on The Bourne. Jointly we were able to formally launch this project on 12th February at an enjoyable social evening in the church hall planned and organised by the Church Warden on behalf of the Vicar.

There will be much else to keep us busy in 2026 including at the outset checking up on the state of all our footpaths to make sure they are in good order for later events which will include a Guided Walk in support of Farnham’s Walking Festival in May and Heritage Open Days in September.

To succeed in this programme we shall as usual require the full support of all Members who we ask to respond positively to the Calling Notices as they appear and to attend the work sessions.

New members who want to help the local community and its wildlife are welcome and can find us on our website at https://www.bourneconservation.org.uk/
